Real Wedding: Kimberley & Scott

real wedding

It was love at first sight for Kimberley and Scott when they met early in 2007. In her own words Kimberley recalls that fateful evening ‘I got a call from my girlfriend asking if I wanted to be an extra in a music video being filmed nearby. My previous plans had fallen through and the thought of hanging out with musicians was a little appealing. About 20 minutes after arriving I caught the eye of this amazing looking guy. For a while we kept our distance but continued to smile at each other. Eventually we met face to face, our connection was instant and we have been inseparable since.’

Planning her wedding started out as a bitter sweet experience for Kimberley. The couple had originally planned to get married on April 6th 2013, but unfortunately her beautiful mother became very ill several months before their wedding date. Kimberley then planned a small and intimate ceremony so that her mother could be a part of their special day. However Kimberley’s mother’s cancer was far too aggressive and she passed away a few days before the big day.

‘For a long time I was not sure if I wanted to get married, not having my mother by my side on my wedding day was too painful to imagine. Then one morning, 3 months prior to the day, I decided I needed to go on living life and be happy. This was important not only for my mum but for my family, Scott and Zander (my son). I planned my wedding and was sure she would be there with me on the day’ Kimberley said.

Kimberley thus set about planning her dream day. ‘Planning a wedding in 3 months was a nightmare! But I truly believe if things are meant to be they will,’ Kimberley said. The couple tied the knot on April 12th – the same date as Kimberley’s parents wedding anniversary.

When it came to her ceremony, Kimberley didn’t have to look too hard. ‘Getting married in my family church was always something I planned to do. And as it happened, our church was recently rebuilt; it went from warm and subtle to modern and magnificent. Scott and I were the first couple to be married in the new church,’ Kimberley said.

Kimberley found her ideal venue with ease: ‘One of my three wedding reception options was the Sandalford Wines. As soon as I entered the ‘underground cellar’ function room I knew it was exactly what I was looking for. The room had a vintage feel, high ceilings, a great structure and I could almost smell the aging port in the wine barrels. It was absolutely perfect.’

Kimberley opted for a classic wedding style with a vintage twist. ‘From as far back as I can remember I envisioned a classic vintage wedding. It was not until I started planning it that I realised I wanted a pearl and lace wedding with a sense of vintage wood, minus the floral.’

Of the day Kimberley says ‘I am sure most girls say this but it’s true; my wedding day is a bit of a blur. It was magical and perfect in every way but it went by really fast. Thankfully there were no major hiccups.’
