Real Wedding: Elyse & Brad
High school sweethearts Elyse and Brad tied the knot in a surprise ceremony at the reception for their daughters christening. Together for 13 years and already with a child Elyse and Brad wanted a simple, relaxed wedding with a romantic touch. Finding their daughter Piper’s christening as the perfect opportunity to hold their secret ceremony, Elyse set about planning the perfect surprise.
Elyse and Piper
Holding the reception for Piper’s christening at her parent’s house, Elyse slipped into her parent’s room to change into her wedding dress while guests mingled and enjoyed feasting on canapés.
In this time the couples celebrant arrived and announced to all the guests that they were not only celebrating the christening of Piper but also Brad and Elyse’s wedding day.
Elyse chose her parent’s house as the ideal location for its beautiful open plan back room and a gorgeous garden.
Following the ceremony Elyse and Brad went to Darook Park to capture some candid shots with their photographer, Kat. They later enjoyed a relaxed lunch with all their guests.
Elyse styled her reception with lots of roses and fresh flowers that she had sourced herself from Sydney’s Flower Market.
With the help of a close friend Elyse set up her parent’s backyard the day before with glass jars hanging from trees, bunting and miniature chalk board signs with handwritten messages.
An ever efficient DIY bride Elyse also made her own wedding favours by filling brown paper bags with the couple’s favourite lollies and decorating them with doilies.
Elyse’s favourite moment: ‘The moment Lillian Lyon (our celebrant) told our guests we were getting married was the best. I had gone into my parent’s room to change and get ready and when she told the guests, all I could hear were screams and laughs and the sound of shock! It was great.’
