Wedding Trends 2015: Part 1
The start of a new year can only mean one thing; new trends! Check out all the top 2015 wedding trends to ensure your big day is both memorable and stylish.
Its flowers galore for wedding receptions in 2015, bridal couples are looking to make their flowers the focal point for their décor with an abundance of romantic, soft blooms taking centre stage. There will be less fillers used, with the aim to create a luxurious setting of bountiful blooms unobstructed by foliage and stems. This extravagant and pricey look is said to be inspired by Kanye West and Kim Kardashians nuptials last year.
In complete contrast other brides will be looking to feature greenery and foliage amongst their reception flower decorations, centrepieces and bridal bouquets. This style adds a soft, rustic touch with a personalised and relaxed air of romance to any wedding celebrations.
Following on from a handful of famous celebrities – Miley Cyrus, Blake Lively, Olivia Wilde and Lauren Conrad to name a few – rose and yellow gold engagement rings and wedding bands are growing in popularity. While white gold and platinum will always remain the staple style, more brides are opting for the dainty and slightly vintage look a rose or yellow gold ring provides. The individualism and character of a yellow or rose gold ring stands as a major drawcard for brides looking for something a little unique.
For 2015 wedding cakes it will be all about the texture. Ruffled and tulle accents in particular will be a favourite amongst brides providing a romantic feel to cake designs. While lace and pleat patterns will also add delectable texture and understated elegance. For weddings embracing a modern style, geometric patterns will be the go to option.
Found all over Pinterest, naked wedding cakes (cakes with no frosting) are a continuing favourite for the alternative bride. Interesting, unique and with a hint of romance these striking cakes are ideal for shabby chic inspired weddings. Another emerging wedding trend of 2014 that still has its place in the cake styles of 2015 is metallic icing. From alternating accent tiers and decorative glitter touches metallic cakes are a seamless blend of sophistication and fun. In 2015 it is predicted that there will be a rise in cakes combining both gold and silver highlights.
Instead of simply having one grand multi-tiered wedding cake some couples are presenting a selection of varying cake styles as part of a cake bar. The cakes will typically range between one and two tiers and will come in different designs, colours and flavours.
Drones, selfie sticks and go pros are making their way to weddings in 2015. Photographers are starting to use drones to capture unique shots from angles they can’t possible achieve through any other means. While the selfie stick continues to rise in popularity, so we can almost guarantee bridal party members of wedding guests will be ripping these out for the ultimate group shot! Bride and grooms will also continue to take their own sweet selfie snaps!
Documentary/ natural style wedding photos and quirky shots opposed to traditional posed images are extremely popular amongst brides especially in 2015. Couples are looking for accurate representations of the day in their wedding photos instead of staged images which don’t reflect the true nature of the day’s events.
Late night snacks, food trucks and food stations are all forecast to remain increasingly popular for the year ahead. Food stations in particular whether it be a make-it-yourself or made-to-order station are going to find their way into many different styled wedding receptions. Popular food station ideas include made to order pasta and stir-fry’s while guests will love making their own tacos or adding toppings to desserts like waffles and sundaes. The appeal of having a food station is that they offer variety, excitement and a great talking point for guests.
Gaining popularity in 2014 family style dining will continue to be a favourite for brides and grooms looking to encourage mingling amongst their guests. Typically accompanied with comfort food type dishes this style of dining is ideal for relaxed wedding celebrations.
